Why the 90-degree QuadCore insulated sandwich panel corner is a key reason our Garden Rooms, Holiday Lodges and Golf Sim Rooms stay strong, weather-tight and professionally finished.
When people compare garden rooms, holiday lodges and golf simulator rooms, they usually look at size, insulation and price. Those things matter. What often gets missed is the part of the building that takes the most punishment: the corner.
At The Insulated Panel Store, the corner is not a weak joint covered with a flashing. It is still a Kingspan QuadCore® insulated wall panel — formed to 90 degrees, reinforced with an internal metal piece, and resealed so the insulation, weather barrier and structure continue around the turn. That detail is one of the main reasons our room kits stand out, and one of the main reasons they stand up to British weather.

The idea in one sentence
Our corners are insulated wall panels cranked to 90 degrees, strengthened with an internal metal insert and resealed — so the corner is as insulated, durable and weather-resistant as the rest of the wall.
Why corners usually let a building down
Most lightweight buildings fail first at the junctions. Two flat wall panels meet. A timber stud or steel angle is added. A cover flashing is folded over the outside. On paper that looks finished. In use, it is often the weakest point of the envelope.
That kind of corner can:
• Create a cold bridge where heat leaks out
• Open a path for wind-driven rain and moisture
• Flex under wind load and put stress on the rest of the wall
• Look untidy, with extra trims, shadow lines and mismatched joints
A garden office, holiday lodge or golf sim room is only as strong as that junction. If the corner moves, leaks or looks homemade, the whole building feels less substantial — even if the panels themselves are high quality.
How our 90-degree insulated panel corners are made
We start with the same Kingspan QuadCore insulated sandwich panel used for the walls of our room kits. The panel is not two separate sheets butted together. It is formed — cracked and bent — through 90 degrees so the outer face, insulation core and inner liner turn the corner as one component.
An internal metal piece is then added to lock that fold in place and give the corner extra rigidity. The joint is resealed so the insulation remains continuous and moisture cannot track into the core. The result is a true insulated corner unit, not a decorative cover over a gap.
That is why the finished building looks sharp from the outside and feels solid from the inside. There is no bulky box-out, no obvious patch, and no break in the panel profile as it turns the corner.
Why this matters on Garden Rooms, Holiday Lodges and Golf Sim Rooms
Garden Rooms
A garden room has to look as if it belongs next to the house, not as if it was assembled from leftover sheets. Clean 90-degree corners give the kit a crisp, architectural outline. They also help the structure stay square while it is being built — which makes doors, windows and flashings sit properly first time.
Holiday Lodges
Holiday accommodation has to take guests, weather and repeated seasonal use. Corners that stay tight keep the lodge warmer, quieter and cheaper to run. For park operators and owners, a strong, sealed corner also means fewer maintenance call-outs and a more consistent finish across a site.
Golf Sim Rooms
A golf simulator room needs a stable, quiet, weather-tight envelope. Tracking systems, screens and projectors do not like draughts, damp or a structure that flexes. Reinforced insulated corners help the room stay rigid and thermally consistent, so the space performs as a proper indoor studio rather than a glorified shed.
The same QuadCore benefits — carried around the corner
Because the corner is still a QuadCore insulated sandwich panel, it keeps the performance people already choose our kits for. It does not introduce a weak, uninsulated detail at the exact point where the building is most exposed.
Superior thermal efficiency
Kingspan QuadCore is a next-generation hybrid closed-cell insulation core, with a typical thermal conductivity of around 0.018 W/m·K — generally about 11% better than a high-quality standard PIR core. Forming the panel through 90 degrees keeps that insulation running around the corner instead of stopping at a timber or metal post. That helps the room stay warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and cheaper to heat.
Enhanced structural integrity
The folded panel plus the internal metal reinforcement creates a stiff, load-sharing corner. Wind does not treat a building as four separate walls; it tries to rack the box. A reinforced 90-degree corner resists that movement and helps the whole kit stay true. That extra rigidity is a big part of why our room kits feel substantial and why they cope with demanding weather.
Long-term durability
The steel faces and QuadCore core are already designed for a long service life. Reinforcing and resealing the corner protects the fold, keeps the core closed to the weather, and reduces the chance of the junction opening up over time. Combined with the rest of the panel system, it supports the kind of long-term performance our kits are built for — with a life expectancy of over 40 years on the insulated panel construction.
Excellent moisture resistance
Water finds the easiest path in. On many buildings, that path is the corner. Because our corner is formed from the panel itself and then resealed, there is no open cut edge left facing the rain. The metal insert and reseal help keep moisture out of the core, which is essential for year-round garden rooms, lodges and simulator spaces.
Simplified installation
A factory-prepared 90-degree corner is faster and cleaner to set than building a corner from scratch on site. The kit goes together more accurately, there is less cutting and folding in the wet, and the installer is not trying to invent a weatherproof detail under time pressure. That fits the way our kits are designed to go up: competent DIY teams can close a typical garden room in a day, and lodge shells follow the same straightforward panel logic.
A clean, professional aesthetic
This is the benefit people notice before they ever read a specification. The corner reads as one continuous panel. The rib profile wraps neatly. The building looks designed, not improvised. Whether you leave the anthracite finish as the external look or overclad later, that sharp 90-degree line gives Garden Rooms, Holiday Lodges and Golf Sim Rooms a smart, commercial-quality outline.
Built to take British weather
Rain, wind, frost and driving wet weather are not occasional events in the UK — they are the working conditions. A room kit that only looks good on a dry delivery day is not good enough.
The 90-degree insulated corner is a key ingredient in how our kits handle that climate. It keeps the envelope continuous. It stiffens the structure where wind load concentrates. It reduces the number of site-made joints that can fail later. Together with interlocking QuadCore wall, roof and floor panels, sealed flashings and a fixed perimeter base channel, it helps create a watertight, wind-tight building that can be used all year.
What this means if you are choosing a kit
If you are comparing room kits, look past the headline panel thickness and ask how the corners are actually made.
• Is the corner still an insulated sandwich panel, or just two walls meeting behind a trim?
• Is there real reinforcement inside the fold, or only a cover flashing?
• Has the core been resealed so moisture cannot enter?
• Will the finished line look sharp, or busy with extra trims?
Those answers tell you how the building will feel in January, how it will look from the garden, and how much time you will spend maintaining it. On our kits, the corner is treated as a structural and thermal component — not an afterthought.
